Sexual Violence Prevention
Sexual Violence Prevention
Teaching our youth about healthy relationships and sexual assault helps break the cycle of abuse and violence. Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center believes early prevention and intervention are the keys to ending domestic and sexual violence in our community.
In 2019 the CDC conducted a Youth Risk Behavior Survey that relates to healthy relationship/sexual assault which revealed that:
• 10.3% of Texas high school students report that they were physically forced to have sexual intercourse
• 10.0% of Texas high school students report that they experienced sexual violence in the last 12 months
• 5.4% of Texas high school students report that they experienced sexual dating violence in the last 12 months
• 8.3% of Texas high school students report that they experienced physical dating violence in the last 12 months
All students have the right to learn in a safe school environment. This is why HLFCC collaborates with middle and high schools and other youth programs to engage educators, coaches, and youth directors in identifying individual and collective behaviors that influence risk, examine and address root causes; social norms, attitudes, and beliefs that contribute to the normalization and perpetration of sexual violence, power and control over others, and systems of oppression.
